Chica lit-Chikalit:
            Chica lit is a genre of fiction that targets young women as its audience,it adreesses  the issues of morden womenhood often humouresly and lightheartedly the genre became popular in the late 1990s.Chicalit typically features a female protagonists whos womenhood is havily thematized in the plot though most often set in a contemporary world such as in waiting to exhale there is also historical chicalet.The issues delt with are often more serious than consumerism marianceyes’s “watermelan” for instance features a protagonist who struggles with how to be a mother in a modern world.There is a growing market for religious chica lit. Chik is American slang for a young women and it is a shorted form of literature. In chica lit fiction the protagonists very widly in ethnicity age, social status, marital status,career and religion.Chicalit was coined in 1995,in the write of cris mazza and jefferey de shell’s anthology chicalit:post feminist fiction.
           Notable examples of chicalit are 1)Bridge jones’s “Diary”published in 1996,by Helen fielding, 2)1997s sex an the city,Candice bushnell,3) the devil wears prada by lauren weis berger 2003 and Sophia kinslla’s 2001 confessions of a shopaholic. The fashionable cloth and some elements of romances are also present is a chicalit fiction.
           The popularity of the term chicalit has led to the coining of a number of variecences like chica.lit for latina women .ladkilit for indian women an ladlit for young urben men.
