About the author:
        Formerly professor in English at the university of Delhi,Chaman Mahal was born in Sialkot In 1927.He is an Indian novelist writing in English and Azadi(1975) is his best known work.He was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1977 for this novel.

About the story:
      The silver Lining is a touching story about a deaf and dumb child and her parents agony.The girl,aware of her handicap,is serious and full of self-pity as she can communicate only in gestures with her hands.A ray of hope is seen when a young man arrives at the guest house run by her parents.He is similarly handicapped and is able to communicate with the child.He brings joy into her parents’ life by offering to teach their daughter lead a normal life.
