Difference between poem and prose and Difference between poem and poetry:

1) .Difference between poem and prose:

       poem is a piece of writing in which the expression of feeling and ideas is given intensity by particular attention to diction, rhythm and imagery.Poem is a form of art in which the skillful choice and arrangement of words achieves desired emotional effect.
Prose is words in their best order.prose is so-called "Ordinary writing". Prose is the opposite of verse or poetry. Prose is all morality of work.
According to Coleridge, the immediate purpose of a poem is the communication of pleasure. But the immediate purpose of prose is the communication of truths.
A poem must be an organic unity.
Meter, rhyme;etc are used in poem.but they are not used in prose.
If metre is used superficially, it can be poem. But a poem can not please us it there is no organic unity.
Coleridge thinks the main aim of poetry is to give pleasure.

         2)Difference between poem and poetry:

          Poem is a literary creation and poetry is the art form.
A poem is a single piece of poetry is the collective term used to describe a group of poems.which may or may not to be related by theme, author, or style.
Poetry creates its own truth, which at times is the same truth as the world's ,and sometimes not.
-Coleridge says that a poem contains the elements as a prose composition.
-Even john shawcross writes;
This distinction between'poetry'and poem is not clear,
and instead of defining poetry. He proceeds to describe a poet, and from the poet he proceeds to enumerate the characteristics of the imagination.'
-'Poetry' for Coleridge is a wider category than a 'poem'; that is,poetry is a kind of activity which can be engaged in by painters or philosopher or scientists and is not confined to those who employed metrical language,or even to those who employ language of any kind.
Poetry, in this larger sense, brings,'the whole soul of man;inti activity, with each faculty playing its proper part according to its 'relative worth and dignity'.
According to Coleridge, the poem is distinguished form prose, compositions by its immediate object of prose is to give truth and that of poem is to please.
